Symbolic colors

Color Wheel

by David Sumich

Yellow is the morning that Orange keeps hot
Silver comes along to give Green a shot
The four of them laugh, though not a lot
In this day and age you give life all you got.

Gray is the canvas which Black adores
Brown is the Earth that Maroon explores
The four of them toil, minding their chores
In this time and place you must fight for yours.

Red is the life and White keeps it cold
Gold strives mightily to make Blue fold
The four of them plot, lives bought and sold
In this so called life you can be so bold.

Short and Colorful writing prompt entry
Writing Prompt
Write a poem which incorporates at least two colors. The idea is to use colors to infer meaning. Poem may be rhyming or not.

The colors in the this piece are my figurative expressions of feelings and emotions that I had faced often during my bouts with alcoholism. I won't break down every line, but if you ever experienced such struggles, you may be able to feel the connection simply through the use of the colors themselves. If anybody cares to know the exact meanings behind the lines, I can answer offline.

Original artwork by me also.
