Giving Thanks despite a pandemic.

Giving Thanks

by Rick McVicar

How do we give thanks while a pandemic
Fires with thunder across our land?
It has brought tragic loss of life
Shutting off labor and neon lights
We scramble to make plans for a holiday
Online talk does not seem a solid way,
Not like a light jab or a soft poke
From Uncle Ernie's ill-placed joke.

We long for a warm hug or a kiss
From Grandma or even, maybe from sis
Small turkeys have become the rage
Can no one now take the stage?
Large venues are no longer on the menu
Invitation lists must be amended
Still, we give thanks to our dear Lord
Even though we are tired and worn.

I am hoping all my readers can find a way to celebrate this Thanksgiving.
