Winter in Kita-ku

by C2

Winter in Kita-ku

I miss
the smell
of the citrus trees,
limbs laden with fragrant fruit,
yuzu, sour orange.

Many of the walled courtyards and smalls parks in the Kit-ku neighborhood where we lived in Osaka were planted with different varieties of citrus trees. Walking through the streets on winter evenings to visit our favorite izakaya was a wonderful sensory experience, the scents of the citrus mingled with the aroma of grilled meat and warm curries.
