Spanish Quintilla poetic form ~ FS Poetry Class

Spanish Guitarra

by Sugarray77

His fingers brush across the strings
awakening dull aching pains
soft, reminiscent Spanish strains,
as nightly his guitarra sings
old Andalusian sad refrains.

The gentle thrumming as he plays
recalls ill-fated summer days;
when two young lovers walking slow,
beneath la luna's milky glow,
were forced to go their separate ways.

The Quintilla is a Spanish poetic form that is structured using five lines per stanza and is has eight syllables (in tetrameter). It uses two end rhymes per stanza and the closing two lines cannot rhyme. Each subsequent stanza has to use new end rhymes and a new rhyme scheme. This poem has two stanzas which is called a Copla Real.
