An Avenue Not an End

by victor 66

Education is one way to learn
so it’s an avenue, not an end.
If you believe that self-education
is real, then you’re well rounded.
Education gives you skill sets,
not truth nor the power to judge.
If it increases your vanity,
you’ve learned nothing.
Education should make you
understand that there are people
out there, without formal education,
that know much more than you do.
Education should teach you that respect
comes from insight, not just big words.
It should transform you, not make you
an arrogant, self-righteous, pompous fool.
Education, yes… some will measure you by it.
Don’t lie about it, but at the same time, don’t be
shoving it in someone’s face to impress them.
Once again, it will make you look the fool.
Education may make you feel unique, but remember,
truly intelligent people don’t need to tell others that
they’re smart… they already know, and if they don’t,
why would you bother to try and convince them.
Education is not necessarily the door to success,
but it is a door to possibilities.  And if for nothing
else, it should give you the knowledge of how
much you really don’t know but yet need to learn.
