Puzzling query
"Truth or Fiction" by Catherin Elizabet Belle
Throughout the years of our youth
We cherished the Candy Cane,
The swirl of red and white sweet treat-
A symbol of the purity of Christ's virgin birth,
The hardness of the Solid Rock for Christ,
The firmness for the promises of God,
The crook for the Good Shepard
And red for the bloodshed on the cross,
Giving the wayward man eternal life
But
In the golden years of our life
Taunted by political correctness
The researchers declare no true meaning
To the tasty symbolic Candy Cane;
That no reindeer pulled a sleigh filled with toys
For good little boys and girls;
Rudolph never sported a flashy red nose
And our beloved Santa Clause never slid
Down the chimney with a Ho, Ho, Ho.
And
Whether you be friend or foe,
Believe or don't believe in the stories
Of our youth, tales we taught our children
As we scrambled to fill stockings for Santa
Devouring his cookies and milk
To keep the joyous excitement alive
Relishing the memories of little ones
Rushing to peer under the tree
I ask you, what it matters, whether
Truth or Myth it be?
