"Love on the rocks..." by trimple

Way back in time when clocks were wound.
Before my glitt'ry eye they swore--
these desperate men; now duly bound
to cast their anchor nearer shore...

On this most wretched stormy night;
a sail away from rocks disguised.
The ocean heaved as well it might
their stoic ship; left paralyzed

Her sinking weight against the tide
no match to ward the crashing waves,
and thus her guts were ripped aside--
The whaling ship had met its grave...

Not far from land the sailor's cries,
unheard of, but for those who bobbed--
'till time wound down their soulful sighs;
their weight in salty waters, robbed.

For here, alas, my keeper kept--
wrapped warm in bed; his lover's charm,
up here inside my tower slept
when all around the sea looked calm.

But little did he realise--
the hours passed as he did toil,
and thus my glitt'ry eye had died
while burning up the whaling oil
