"Flash Fiction" by Mark Valentine

Sinestro stomped down Fifth Avenue wreaking havoc on the Macy’s parade. My only superpower being speed, I ran to safety, leaving Al Roker, Savannah Guthrie, the University of Nebraska Marching Band, and the Broadway cast of “Hamilton” to almost certain destruction.

In the chaos that ensued, volunteers let go of the ropes that tethered giant balloons to earth, causing giant cartoon animals to collide with planes attempting to land at LaGuardia. Death and destruction everywhere. Some superhero. I’ll never live this down. I guess no matter how fast you are, you can’t run from shame.

Thankfully, it was just a dream.

100 Word Flash Fiction writing prompt entry

Writing Prompt
Write a flash fiction story. 100 words exactly. Title not included in count.

Author Notes
In the DC Comics Universe, Flash is a superhero whose superpower is that he can run fast (a power that I would think would be more appropriate for super-cowards, but what do I know?)- his evil nemesis is Sinestro. The fact that it was just a dream makes it "Flash" fiction - get it?
