Chapter 59 of the book 2020 - 2
"The Welcome Glow" by Barb Hensongispsaca
in an unforgiving place
full of unseen dangers
and cold so stricken
that it robs each warm breath.

light the darkened way
but leave haunting shadows
to play with the imagination,
forcing thoughts of death.

so brisk with freezing cold
through layers of insulation,
rob the very soul of its heat
leaving one to shake unknowingly.

all hope gone of rescue,
forcing one foot in front of the other
one minute in front of the next
wondering if body is lost forever.

a glow in the distance,
perhaps a trick of the eye,
leading me deeper in the abyss
of this unforgiving land.

the gentle glow exists
it beckons me on,
it is steadfast, unmoving
a promise of warmth and solace.

I see the steady movement,
the flickering as it bids me on,
shining in the dark
as it promises hope and rest.

the cold bids me as I feel numb,
but I can hear the glow whisper,
I can make it, I can live ...
I am home.

Author Notes
cleo85 thank you for permission to use your picture.

This is my response to write a free verse on a soft glow or sheen.

I remember once when I was lost in the forest in the far north and the light from a window, beckoned me to fight the drifts and come home.
