"Boys in the Night" by Bill Schott

Boys all stand with baseball bats;
bats fly by as they swing hard.
Hard to hit those flying rats;
"Rats!" says Jake, his mouth agape.

Agape love now fills his mind.
"Mind them critters! All bats down!"
Down from ducks now flew around.
"Around them bats is a quackin' duck."

"Duck!!" yells Sam, and we all mind,
Mind is a terrible thing to waste.
Waste it and you'll want it back.
"Back!" yells Sam, like he's singing bass.

"Bass are flying past my face."
"Face it, Sam. You're going nuts."
"Nuts! That's it!" His hand waves.
Waves of nuts come on the wind.

"Wind this up. Call it an evening,"
evening out what took place in his brain.
Brain, bass, bats, ducks, and nuts that night.
Night of noise, the joys, and the boys.
