"Moving Forward"
by Robert Zimmerman

Back in February of this year, I posted a short poem called “The Year of Hindsight.” I called it that because hindsight is 2020. Little did I know that hindsight would do little good in this year. Everything we experienced has been different from any other year in our lifetime.
Today, we stand on the precipice of 2021. Things will certainly be different in some ways. We will have a complete change in government in less than a month. Add that uncertainty to the continuing onslaught of COVID-19, many are anxious and apprehensive.
We all know those who have had very difficult circumstances in 2020. Those were compounded by the circumstances in the world. It is important that each of us reviews where we have been and where we are headed. No one needs to be reminded how difficult life has become. We know how difficult it is because we see it all around us every day and we live it every day.
The question is, “How can we continue to live in these circumstances? The world is so different. What do I do next?” Like everyone else, I have spent time thinking about these things. I decided what I needed to do was to express myself in a short poem.
The last year did my life divert.
My life was bruised, my feelings hurt.
I just can’t wait to say goodbye.
The year has caused a great outcry.
Don’t stand around to cry the blues.
Don’t let enthusiasm ooze.
“HANG ON” I said, “days will increase.”
The troubles in my heart must cease.
Look forward now, stop looking back.
Let all that grief, my heart unpack.
The future lies ahead of me.
What shall I do? What will I be?
Look forward with my mind at peace.
Let “hopeful” be my centerpiece.
The year was hard but now it’s gone.
Prepare my heart and now, move on.
