Uncomplicated man's quiet evening.
"Simple Man's Eve"
by dellsworthpoet
|
On the back stoop,
the porch swing moving slightly,
plucking out some ancient melody
and sipping sweet tea.
The moon rises, a bright beacon,
and the world transforms--
white and silver where moonbeams fall
and peaceful blackness elsewise.
Crickets' calls from tangled bracken,
night birds' songs
fall hollow on silent air.
Millers float and flap at lantern lenses.
Content with day's work over,
desiring nothing but peaceful reverie,
the simple man
quiets himself for a night of rest.

Author Notes
I am an fan of blues, folk, and country music. The history of these are full of front or back porches, one or more people picking and quiet, lazy towns or farms. This is a homage to them and perhaps a bit of a love poem.
