a one-hundred-word story
"Ganesh" by Bill Schott

I walked into the writing lab to get some help revising my research paper. The usual staff seemed to be missing. There was a huge elephant sitting in the center of the room. This seemed odd, but what was even stranger was that he was writing with a tusk pen.

"Excuse me, friend," I said, "could you help me format this APA paper."

The pachyderm paused a second from what he was penning. Smiling, he reached his trunk out and took the document from me.

“What’s it concerning?” he asked.

“Astrodynamics.”

He handed it back smiling. “I only do MLA.”

Author Notes
Thanks to seshadri_sreenivasan for use of the art.

Ganesh is a Hindu deity who removes obstacles. He is in elephant form. He wrote a culturally important poem using his own tusk.

APA and MLA are different publishable writing styles. The former used more for science and
engineering while the latter is used chiefly for literary papers.
