Commentary on the summer of 2021.
"Plea for Action: Summer 2021"
by dellsworthpoet
|
Within our troubled nation
there is great consternation.
The west is conflagration
east suffers inundation.
More COVID infestation.
We're begging for cessation.
Conspiracy mentation--
anxiety creation.
Then distress or elation
o'er abortion cessation.
Global warming we debate,
more frequent storms is our fate.
Now we hear the screams of hate,
anti-vaxers at the gate.
Yes, the factions fulminate,
perceived opponents they bait.
We should stop to contemplate
try our anger to abate.
Make changes, for if we wait,
our actions may be too late.
We're poised on a razor's edge
let's just step back from the ledge.

Author Notes
This past summer saw multiple wildfires in California and Washington and indeed much of the western U.S. And with tropical storms, and heavy rain the eastern seacoast was under water frequently. Add this to the ongoing pandemic and I ended up with this. The muse wasn't happy.
Illustration: public domain various sites, combined: fire, rain, and U.S. map.
