Thich Nhat Hanh, Mindfulness, western countries
"Hanh, Mindfulness, West"
by LittleIrishman
The area of mindfulness has become much a part of therapy, stress management, and personal development the world over, but many may not have heard of Zen master, Thich Nhat Hanh.
Mindfulness involves the mind-body-emotions-spirit and religion connection. It also has visualisation and meditation, deep breathing, and prayerful, positive, and physical affirmations.
Perhaps in Asian and Vietnamese circles, Hanh would have been known, but not as much by westerners.
Hanh contributed to bringing mindfulness to western and other countries, especially southwest France, and the Plum Village Monastery. He founded one of the largest monastic orders in the West, with engaged Buddhism, and his founded Plum Village Tradition.
He would travel and give retreats and talks internationally, including a visit to his home country of Vietnam in 2005 after a 39-year exile.
He was a young, numerous generational Thien Buddhist monk who derived from the Tu Hieu Temple in Hue, Vietnam. This was the very place he died just recently at the hearty age of 95 years, stemming from a stroke in 2014. Thich returned to the temple in 2018, and died in late January 2022.
Devotees from around the world, Asian, western, and others, would visit Hanh in Vietnam when alive, and to pray and pass on wishes having passed away.
