New blanket for Emily,
its pastel hues bright.
She loved it through the years,
even as colors began to fade,
and it became dingy as it aged.
Night comes and she hugs it tight,
feeling safe nestled under.
It went from crib to canopy bed,
and wears countless stitches now.
An old friend greets her each day.

Author Notes
My daughter loves her baby blanket so much, even though she's eight now (shhhh, don't tell her friends). She calls it blankie and refers to it as "she". I just sewed "her" up yet again yesterday. I asked Emily how long she was going to keep her. She told me it would be forever. Then she reminded me that I still have my favorite doll (which is in horrible shape) from my childhood. The girl has a point.
