How a poet becomes a poet
"A Poet's Heart" by nancy_e_davis

Someone who's not a poet shouldn't judge a poet's art.
Someone who's not a poet doesn't have a poet's heart.
A poem is an art form that releases waves of pain.
Agonizing thoughts revealed that lets them live again.

Devastating loss, disaster, coupled with despair.
Debilitating blows that strike the heart and fester there.
A loved one gone, along with hope, in shock you wonder why.
A heart that bleeds and tries to cope, to learn to say goodbye

Going to the doctor thinking it's all in your head.
Getting devastating news you're really sick instead.
Awaiting news that told you he was almost home that night
And then to hear that wasn't true, that he was on that flight.

I'm saying you must suffer if a poet you would be.
It isn't something learned, it is a gift to set you free
Never judge a poet's work, for it's a work of art.
Never judge you never know what's in the poet's heart.
