Rhett Butler did not feel the usual excitement he had while boarding the ship. With indifference he surveyed the passengers. Elegant men escorted their prim wives like trophies, young mother's fussed over their bundled babies and toddlers clung to wooden toys while taking in the wonder of the massive ship around them.

He never felt so alone. Everywhere was a reminder of family traditions and the unity it represented. An enormous emptiness surrounded him because he knew with finality that Rhett Butler belonged to nothing or no-one now. Clutching the handsome suitcase he made his way into the main room, the faster he entered his cabin the better. He barked at a steward
