He loved immensely
"A Creature's Steward"
by jlsavell
Such a small thing
wrapped in five ounces of feathered courage
Newborn feet and a broken wing
cuddled in loving arms
She was a Nighthawk
fallen from a nest of birth
Her savior… an ordinary man
Simple means
Immense faith
An overflowing cornucopia of love
My Uncle, that is
Not a creature omitted from his heart
A huge heart, filled with bliss
and giant hands as gentle as the wind
His life's legacy,
of herculean compassion
Truly taking to heart our earthly responsibility
God’s real steward of all creatures
great and small, frail and strong
He was more than my mentor
My turmoiled life’s saving grace
In our time,
he taught me humanity’s place
A place in a world so big
where man has lost his way
A regress of times and dreams
Like fractured hope
raining shards of disillusionment
But he, my Uncle was like
time lapse photography
Going backwards and
redeeming mankind’s topography
Rest in peace dear,sweet man

Author Notes
My Uncle loved all creatures and rescued as many as he could. He had a pet cemetery in his back yard. When he rescued this tiny Nighthawk, he and his wife no longer took vacations together for one had to be home with this wonderful bird.
