A career banker seeking to find redemption in words as against numbers.

My Resurrection
"I am their window to the world" by Praveen J.
I have no desire to label life as rotten
Just because I am one of those forgotten

When I was young and in the flow
Career focused, always on the go

Days were packed and nights were too
Restaurants, galleries, a film preview

Trinkets to buy and people to meet
Deadlines, just playing to the beat

The years went by in a blur of time
Never stopped to compose a rhyme

Parents died as did uncles and aunts
I remained mostly nonchalant

Steadily the children began to leave
I still had a life, no time to grieve

Then I retired and the friends fell away
Discovered loneliness on my birthday

Then divinity gave me a second chance
Once again I was to rise and dance

They needed someone to read to the blind
Another group ignored by mankind

It is the hardest job I have ever had
I wake up feeling like Sir Galahad

I have a tough audience to woo
With classics and bestsellers too

I explain phrases like, 'tongue in cheek'
They punch notes in Braille, as I speak

They are clever, tender and trusting
their curiosity keeps me from rusting

places on me a huge responsibility
to protect their innocent gullibility

as I watch them grow and blossom
nipping overuse of words like Awesome

I feel useful and in many ways fulfilled
My life's purpose is finally distilled

Funny poem about your job writing prompt entry

Writing Prompt
Write a humorous poem about your job. It can be any job, but it has to rhyme.

Author Notes
Being a teacher in this day and age is hard enough. Reading to the blind is harder still, or so I thought. On the contrary, can you imagine having students who don't care about Facebook and Instagram :)))
