Faceless yet voidless, with no form that can ever stop trying to grow. Some may call this survival instinct viral, or parasitic. Yet it is the only way to keep moving on . . .

An early morning adventure
"After Breakfast" by Lance Polin

After breakfast I turned on the light, picked up the ten pound rock I found yesterday, and set it by the phone. I stared at the clock: six-fifty eight AM. I looked over the kitchen table and glanced at the closed door to our bedroom. HER bedroom. I had been shoved outside for the past two months.

I dialed. "Yeah." I said to the voice that answered. "Yeah . . . Yes. . . In a few more minutes . . ."

I hung up the phone.

With a war cry I picked up the rock and ran towards the bedroom, kicking in the door. I turned on her light. I glanced at her clock, then stumbled over the phone. I slammed the thing as hard as I could down upon her head, not even giving her time to start screaming.

I would have her for breakfast the following morning.
