Chapter 5 of the book The Christ Accounts
Another time, another place
"The Touch" by jlsavell

The dark clouds of despair
hung as a smothering curtain
of grief against the backdrop
of Jerusaleum's heat

His body, lovingly wrapped
in mourning's cloth was placed with great care
within the sleeping tomb of stone

His faithful followers,
priviledged to have witnessed much
from his gentle hands,
were still beyond a certain comprehension
of  Yeshua's promise

This man filled with love-
the kind of love which riled hypocrits
and shamed the arrogant
The kind of love which embraced the ugly,
healed the broken, lowered the haughty,
emboldened the timid;
all of this without return

But what would tomorrow bring,
for He no longer walked among them
Brutally betrayed by the savage hands
of fanaticism

The early, scorching sun
bore upon her shoulders,
adding to the heavy burden of her sorrow

Her intense anguish
escalated upon her approach

The guardian stone displaced
without explanation
and the emptiness of its chambers
tore at  her broken heart

She fell to her knees,
wailing in violent gasp
Her disheartened cries startled the nestled birds
whom had taken respite in the cavernous crypt

When will the hatred reaped
upon her beloved friend and mentor cease?
What evil would steal and desecrate his body?
Why?

Wasn't his death witnessed by these vultures
enough to satisfy their black hearts?

With emotions ire,
she ran swiftly-
all the while screaming,
determined to demand truth

But she knew full well,
the futility of her cries
were as the parched soil begging for water

Suddenly,
a voice- a distinct voice,
so comforting, yet so commanding,
pierced her heated words,
just as a gentle hand touched her being

"My dearest one, dry your tears
I am here, but only for a while
My Father's promise stands
Rise Mary, rise
Rise to the hope that death
has no victory o'er man's inhumanity to man

She wrapped her arms around him
as tightly as a frightened child begging her Father to stay

It was in this very moment
she realized....
that letting go-
was holding on to
something she thought she had lost

faith
