Democracy demands informed voters to function well.l
"Defeating the Purpose of Reform" by Donald O. Cassidy

Democracy is not signed, sealed and delivered. To function efficiently, a democratic form of government requires much development, plurality of voices, and debate to form a constitution. But the best constitutions are not perfect because they're a work in progress.

Statespersons have put it well to say a democracy is messy, in that a plurality of voices only finally write a code of ethics and equitable government.
I believe it was British Prime Minister, Winston Churchill, a statesman who said, Democracy is the worst form of government--except for the alternatives.. Wrangling, disputes, and even vested interests, to have their say. Debate finally gives way to reason and practicality.

An example of self interest and a warped ideology was the Articles of Confederation, in the early American colonies. A constitution on the core idea of states' rights left a government hamstrung because it denied a federal role in collecting revenue, a uniform legislation, (instead of separate states fostering conflict, and a central document respected by foreign powers.

The United States Constitution, with the Bill of Rights and many amendments contends with thugs who find loopholes to defeat public citizenship for masses.

Denying a mixed economy of free enterprise, with federal and state regulation of industry, leads to an aristocracy, a government by the rich. Through propaganda and shrewd lies, like the Golden Rule":--"'them that have the gold make the rules." '
Ultimately, this gets back to the colonial days of the Articles of Confederation and States Rights. That clashes with the Constitution of a mixed economy allowing social justice. Opposing ideology is one of those alternatives named by Winston Churchill, namely Communism, a top-down hierarchy of the privileged. This example of authoritarian control is really a tidy system: because citizens toe the line, with no argument and a mandated regimen of conformity to dictators.

It is similar to a sneaky infiltration from corporate greed like the National Rifle Association, in spreading the self-interest of a warped Constitution of Second Amendment's right to bear arms
S A savvy thinker of the past pointed out that such rights are confined to a state militia. These rights were never meant for the general public. [See, Steve Salerno. The American Legion Magazine, September, 1987.] There has been similar coverage since.

Author Notes
The subject of this essay would seem to fit Q &A, similar to True & False. I'll think about that.
