Clamor for sales of alcoholic beverages Deters NO SMOKING.
"Alcohol Push Defeats NO SMOKING" by Donald O. Cassidy

Wealthy tobacco companies quashed medical warning of tobacco use for decades.

United States Surgeon General, Dr. Luther Terry, confirmed that numerous lethal chemicals in tobacco consumed by human beings definitely caused cancer. Lawyer, John Banszaf, founder of Action on Smoking and Health ( A S H) took cigarette makers to court, and made remarkable progress against second-hand smoke. The Federal Drug Administration (F D A) and the American Cancer Society allied in pressing government to bring tobacco executives to face a show down. Under law, six C E Os of major tobacco companies faced a federal hearing.
Right down the line, when questioned whether or not tobacco was addictive, all six resounded with a big NO.

Non smokers were between two fires: No Smoking, one the one hand, and alcoholic sales, on the other.

Devout disciples of God should distinguish between the Kingdom of Heaven, and the kingdom of this world. Consistent discipleship could overwhelm vice and unhealthy lifestyles through attrition, or surprising disciplined lifestyles.
The consortium of Surgeon Generals, Action on Smoking and Health (A S H), and licensed medical forces fostered where the public resisted commercial tobacco propaganda and riches that finally voted some sanity to government laws too ban smoking in public buildings.
From these civilized measures, NO SMOKING signs snow balled to health facilities, public and private.

Finally realizing the gig was up, tobacco companies indulged in electronic cigarettes.

But even more devious defense came from smokers and other vested interest forces that complained of favoring alcoholic drinks, but blasting crusades against nicotine.

These complainers did have a point.

The history of legal alcohol sales goes back to the Temperance Movement in the early 1900s. In 192-33, the 23rd Amendment rendered it consumers a right to buy alcoholic drinks from licensed businesses. The rationale was that government approval of licensing would drive out bootleggers and at once bring in much-needed revenue.

It certainly succeeded in that measure. And it's undersrtandable that devout people curtailed some businees/government income through boycotts.

A tragedy in religious offense is that educational television (local affiliate with PUBLIC BROADCAST SERVICE ( P B S) Kentucky Educational Television (K E T) has a major
sponser selling hard liquor.

This is a sticky issue, but more harm is widespread inconsistency in regard to separaation of church and state.

Disciples of God nad the Lord Jesus Christ must distinguish between the Kingdom of Heaven and the kingdom of the world. Christians can still refuse alcoholic beverages( as well as tobacco products), and never doubt that believers in Divine salvation acting wholesale would revolionize commerce in short order. The liquor industry would rapidly go broke. Beer and wine would greatly reduce their production and sales.

Author Notes
The length of this post would be more expedient to present it by segments, or chapters. My purpose here was to touch the major bases, and thus challenge simplistic arguments. Suggestions invited.
