The Awdl Gynt
"Erasmus Darwin House" by Dolly'sPoems

I walked the path Erasmus took,
the visit shook my bone,
for standing in his little nook
were books he used to own.
A place he wrote in perfect rhyme,
grew roses, herbs like parsley, thyme
this eighteenth century was fine,
oh how the time has flown!

I strolled around the gardens there,
as I could share his life
he was a scientist, he dared,
to care for all in strife.
This man was keen to learn and see
inventions to help you and me,
the visit to his home was free
where history is rife.

Author Notes
Erasmus Darwin House is a stones throw away from my home and I have visited many times. The garden is small and quaint and as soon as you enter you can smell the herbs and roses. Erasmus was a doctor, inventor, published poet, scientist and botanist. The house is filled with his inventions and books he wrote.

His unique house is in a perfect location, opposite Lichfield Cathedral and is open to the public completely free of charge. Erasmus Darwin was the grandfather of Charles Darwin.
