Black Friday, the biggest Christmas Shopping Day of the Year
"The Day After Thanksgiving" by Patty Palmer
T'was the day after Thanksgiving
Way before the dawn
Fumbling in the dark
To get their clothes on.

This was the day
They waited for each year.
Christmas shopping bargains
Facing crowds without fear!

The parking lot full
Not a space to be found
Shoppers in sleeping bags
Camped out on the ground.

The crowd was restless
The noise immense!
Anxiety building,
The mood now intense!

The hour drew nearer
When they'd open the door
The crowd banded closer
Some knocked to the floor.

The shoppers stampeded
Pushing their way in!
The time was at hand
Let the shopping begin!

They filled up the aisles
As tight as could be
As if they were giving
Something out for free!

The prices were lowered
In half some were slashed
As shoppers grabbed items
Waving credit cards and cash!

This was true shopping
From the mall to Walmart
These Christmas shoppers
Had it down to an art!

Within just a few hours
All the sale items went.
The shoppers now tired,
All their money spent.

Christmas shopping was done
For yet another year.
The shoppers went home
As evening drew near.

But I heard one exclaim
As she walked away
See you all next year
On the next Black Friday!

Christmas Poetry contest entry

Author Notes
The biggest Christmas shopping day of the year! I went one year and it was crazy! People were grabbing things out of other people's hands! One lady did get knocked to the floor and everyone just stepped over her like she wasn't even there! My husband and I pretty much just watched the crowd out of control. We didn't buy anything because we weren't about to stand in those lines! Instead, we went out to eat!
