A homeless man, questions asked
"Questions" by David R. Davis
Questions
Jerry his name, hard to tell his age
a nice smile, kind looking eyes
grocery cart far bigger than anyone should push
wonder what treasures it holds?
was wondering if you are hungry?
yeah, I am
buy something good for lunch
thanks, I will
how long have you been like this?
been like what?
on the streets
thirty-three years
nice talking to you Jerry, take care
nice talking to you too
wonder what he will buy?
a burger, street tacos, a beer?
not really my place to ask
his money now, it was given to him
doesn't buy me the right to question
i do wish him well
did i do it for him?
did i do it for me?

Author Notes
Yesterday we met Jerry. He asked for nothing, he was kind with a nice smile and without a trace of any embarrassment.
