Acrostic free verse list poem.
"Christmas Carols Acrostic" by CrystieCookie999
Cards perch perkily along many households' fireplace mantel tops.
Hot chocolate awaits with shot of eggnog or sprinkle of cinnamon.
Rosette bows and poinsettias bloom near solemn, painted Nativity scene.
Icicles hang stoically in slippery silence outside on rooftop edges.
Star of Bethlehem graces tree with glimmering memory of past and present glory.
Teacup candles-white, squat, and shining-in glass jars brighten a dinner table.
Mistletoe hangs like a sly, green elf over doorway to the kitchen.
Apple cider simmers in a stainless steel saucepan on the stove.
Santa Claus and Mrs. Claus gaze at their own Christmas tree.

Candy canes mimic sturdy, striped icicles on tree limbs.
Almond extract lends flavor to frosting and sugar cookie dough.
Red and green in vibrant velvet bows recall Christ's blood and eternal life.
Oranges boldly bulge from the toes of stockings on Christmas morning.
Lights shine like eyes of each child in sheer anticipation.
Swaddling clothes enclose the Christ child to secure the season with love.

Christmas Poetry contest entry

Author Notes
Several of my own family's traditions are included here. Christmas has always been switching back and forth between religious and 'fun' meanings, so this poem does the same. I chose Christmas Carols as the acrostic words because we are unable to sing literally here, but the words just might inspire a Christmas song.
