A rhyming poem about my mom
"Mother" by Debby Bates

She's always there for you and knows what's right.
She believes in God and says a prayer every night.
She raised five children and is a wonderful Grandma.
She makes lots of goodies and loves Grandpa.
She kisses boo-boos,
and changes doo-doos.
She makes underbed monsters go away,
and always has time for play.

She has an answer for most anything,
like how does the grass grow?, and why do birds sing?
Why does the moon follow us at night?
How does the Easter Bunny stay out of sight?
How does Santa get in the house if there is no chimney?
Why can't we see germs?, and how do worms see?

When I was growing up, she taught me important things like:
Don't run with scissors and don't ride double on your bike.
Be kind to animals and look both ways before crossing a street.
Keep your shoes off the table and keep your room neat.
Share with those who are less fortunate than us.
Call me if you miss the bus.
Always put yourself in other people's shoes.
Never lie, always be true.
Don't swim in the river while you're in the park.
Don't talk to strangers and be home before dark.

There are times when I may take her for granted, but it doesn't take me long to realize how blessed I am to have her.
I've often thought: 'God wanted help being everywhere, so He created mothers.'
