Chapter 29 of the book 2020 - 3
just because
"Nothing Left" by Barb Hensongispsaca
Some marriages are really hard,
but, mine harder than most.
He loved the pow'r he had o'er me,
his anger, he would boast.

He always looked for reasons to
start beating anytime.
I knew I had to find an out
but murder was a crime.

I found the gun he'd hidden high
upon the unlocked shelf.
The gun I wouldn't use on him,
but would use on myself.

'Twas fully loaded, six filled shots,
the safety was unlatched.
I grabbed the Bible from the desk,
sat on the floor - detached.

"Dear Lord, no more! You take my life -
You walk where I can't walk ...
or let me end the pain right now.
I'm tired of being stalked."

Three times I pulled the trigger back,
three times it would not fire.
I'm telling you the honest truth
though some may call me 'liar'.

Hold on, the best is yet to come.
I took the gun outside
and shot the air, six perfect shots ...
there'd be no suicide.

He's kept His promise made to me,
walks with me everyday.
My life's been His to do His will
whatever comes my way.
