What self-isolation has meant for me.
"Extraordinary Times" by Flyaway1

We have all been changed by the pandemic. Corona Virus came into our country, and immediately started killing Americans. This virus has changed all of us- who knows what the long lasting effects of the virus will be?

Speaking to the non-important issues; I am finding that I can not be bothered with my makeup. My hair has gone amuck. I miss my massages that alleviated my cranky pain.

It tickles me that online department stores have developed: "the cozy collection". Why get dressed up? My wardrobe has been workout leggings and graphic tees.

This isolation has been hard, because of the lack of connection with others. I live on a small island in the Puget sound. Everyone looks out for each other. People know your name. These individuals may not be friends, but they are kind, friendly people who do a great many services for people on this island. I miss their faces, and all the things they do. These are the people, I miss daily.

My husband and I are both retired, with enough to see us through. However, my adult children have been hit hard by the virus. It has been a difficult time. It is extremely hard to work at home, while home schooling children, running a household and cooking. I have a feeling our educational system will be quite different, as we settle back into school again.

Many families are in financial crisis. A lot of hard working people do not have jobs at the moment. I hear their fears and the sheer exhaustion of watching kids, the worry about their future and what happens if the virus takes another spin in the fall. They are battling the unknown. Nobody can give them an answer, because nobody knows.

My hope is that those of us that can, will share our resources, help our families and support our communities.

If you are looking for a silver lining in all this? I think families have reconnected. I think the bonds that have been formed will last a life time.

My faith in the future is my belief that God is greater than the virus, above any president (good or bad) and most importantly- He loves us at our worst. I trust in the sovereignty of God.

We will move past this extraordinary time in America's history, because we have the freedom and flexibility to do what we do best. We get up every time we fall down. We find a way....America is far from
perfect, but I am beyond thankful that I get to live here.

Non-Fiction Writing Contest contest entry

Author Notes
I have seen the corona virus from both sides- the retired and the working force. I did not write anything that is not already known, but I am writing this to encourage Americans to trust in God and do the next right thing.
