Once upon a time I was harsh but time has worn me down and taught me; empathy is not a weakness. ~ Jack (Elchupakabra)

This work has reached the exceptional level
First step to recovery; accountability.
"Enter Light, Stage Right" by elchupakabra
Exit light, stage left
my heart was left to rot
in San Francisco
dead like disco, fiery
desires and passions expired
around twilight
and I might imbibe for a while
if it's on somebody else's dime
cause I spent all of mine

At the bottom of my whiskey glass lives
an arthritic, myopic and dystopic worldview
askew, lacking logic, toxic; bordering on psychotic
narcissistic, addicted and twisted
full of resentment
it's pathetic
icky icky icky
I'm so sick of being sick
so let's get lit to forget it

Melodic tunes of yore remind me when I was good
now I'm forlorn, adorned with the sins of my past
a body cast restricting blood flow
to the brain
the train left the station without me but I'm better off
believe me
just leave me
that train keeps chuggin'

It's their fault
It's their fault
It's their fault

Re-tracing the tracks I've tread
the paths of destruction I have weaved
the mantra in my head repeated, unabated
liquored up instead, ignoring what I fear most;

It's MY fault.

Wasting, pacing, chasing highs to forget the lows
taking the blows, it litters my being
on the withered edges of my soul
recycling, reusing the same tired excuses
reducing me to only one option

An island, a dream. Enter light, stage right.

Author Notes
EDIT: Had to make a few edits for the contest.

Sun rises in the east (enters stage right) and sets in the west (exits stage left)

Get lit - get drunk

The first step to recovering from any addiction is being able to take personal accountability for our actions.
