Rondeau Poetry A rondeau poem is required for this contest. It is a fixed form of poetry. It is often used in light or witty poems. It often has fifteen octo - or decasyllabic lines with three stanzas. It usually only has two rhymes used in the poem. A word or words from the first part of the first line are used as a refrain ending the second and third stanzas. The rhyme scheme is aabba aabR aabbaR. See an example and instructions here.

"Misery's My Mistress"

The New England night air tasted salty to Nico. Lady luck had given him the cold shoulder. He'd taken too many bad beats. In spite of his somber circumstance, he couldn't help chuckling to himself.
"Whassa matta wit' you, huh?" yelled a sharp dressed hitman holding a gun drawn at Nico. Perched on the ledge, Nico dangled precariously, high above the river running under the Cape Cod Canal bridge.
Before Nico jumped, his final words were, "misery's my mistress, lady luck's my love, if she'll have me once more I might find my way above"
