"History Repeats" by lancellot

Josiah watched the smoky orange night sky through the cracks of their boarded-up windows. He turned to the ashen faces of his wife and kids.

His son's eyes were wide and vacant. "Maybe, they'll stop, Daddy?"

Josiah wanted to answer: Yes, they've satisfied their hatred. It'll be alright.

A former history teacher, he still couldn't believe what they'd done. Abolished the police and banned all guns. Nazis, Jim Crow; why don't we learn? Evil never rests.

Josiah stood. "Hide! They're coming."

A drabble is a flash fiction story that uses 80 words. That is the challenge of this contest. Write a story (on any topic) using 80 words. The title does not count towards the word count. The submitted work must be between 78 - 82 words.
