A midnight escape
"The Night Train" by Markie Doczi



Sarah stood near the tracks, waiting. She nervously checked behind her, knowing her angry husband would be searching. He’d hit her again tonight, removing any doubt she’d had about her plan.

Before long she felt the rumbling in the ground, and the whistle blew as the train approached the crossing. The full moon illuminated the passing railcars as she carefully timed them, her heart pounding. At last the caboose approached. She leapt aboard, desperately grasping the rail- and her freedom.
